{"id":390,"date":"2015-09-13T00:34:38","date_gmt":"2015-09-13T00:34:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sculpture.plainandpractical.com\/?p=390"},"modified":"2015-09-17T15:31:54","modified_gmt":"2015-09-17T15:31:54","slug":"the-odd-side-job","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/sculpture.plainandpractical.com\/?p=390","title":{"rendered":"The Odd Side Job"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Every once in awhile, I&#8217;ll have some fun opportunity fall right into my lap.\u00a0 I happened to ask one of the grip makers who purchases blanks from me, &#8220;What do you do with the ones that break or don&#8217;t come out of the CNC &#8220;good enough&#8221; to sell?&#8221;\u00a0 And she sent me a zippy full of lovely bits.\u00a0 I scraped off the adhesive from the backs, sanded them, and coated backs and fronts with linseed oil.\u00a0 The next day, more sanding and linseed oil.\u00a0 Day three, steel wool&#8217;d them and started deciding what findings were needed.\u00a0 Today, went to the bead store and laid them out and planned their findings.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The bead store owner was so fascinated with them, that I&#8217;m to bring her a bowlful of polished wood bits next week and we&#8217;ll see if the customers are interested.\u00a0 I sure am!\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been saving all these little wood bits and hoping to find some way to make them useful.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">So these are all laid out with findings and now their matching beads and other items, and in the morning I&#8217;ll check them again and start on them.\u00a0 Hoping to mail them all on Monday, Tuesday at the latest.\u00a0 Very enjoyable work and nice to have a little change of pace now and then.\u00a0 It was fun to paw through my old boxes of goodies and treats and find beads and embellishments that would quickly work well to finish these into wearable art.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Another side job was preparing items for the Golden Hobby Shop, to deliver tomorrow on September 18th&#8211;here&#8217;s the firestarters I made&#8211;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sculpture.plainandpractical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/20150916_124616.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-394\" src=\"http:\/\/sculpture.plainandpractical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/20150916_124616-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"20150916_124616\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/sculpture.plainandpractical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/20150916_124616-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/sculpture.plainandpractical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/20150916_124616.jpg 668w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">and I made another batch of key fobs for them&#8211;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sculpture.plainandpractical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/FB_IMG_14424329940687708.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-395\" src=\"http:\/\/sculpture.plainandpractical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/FB_IMG_14424329940687708-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"FB_IMG_14424329940687708\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/sculpture.plainandpractical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/FB_IMG_14424329940687708-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/sculpture.plainandpractical.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/FB_IMG_14424329940687708.jpg 668w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">and believe it or not, finishing up an embroidered wool quilt to take.\u00a0 I had this stuff around and since I&#8217;m unemployed again, thought I&#8217;d be resourceful and make some money while &#8220;cleaning up&#8221;
